Care Homes
Our philosophy is quite simple: We don’t think anyone would want to put their parent where they wouldn’t want to stay themselves! We thought it should feel like a hotel, but a country house one. In other words, high standards of decor but still retaining that homeliness feel, somewhere our guests would want their friends to visit, a home they felt proud of, just like we all feel proud of where we live and how it reflects us. We wanted somewhere that the staff and residents all enjoyed each other’s company, where everyone was on first name terms with everyone else.

My father was a resident for a relatively short period, however as a dementia sufferer he was always given such wonderful care and his family always felt that we were welcomed and supported. I’m sure that there are many people who we did not meet who provided wonderful support and it’s wrong to highlight one person,

Is the atmosphere positive? Is the staff welcoming and happy to talk you through the rules and regulations surrounding the care provision?
All of English Oak’s care homes are made up of happy, fun loving staff who truly care. The atmosphere as soon as you walk in is clear that we are one big family, dedicated to care and creating a fun workplace full of laughter.
All of our staff are highly trained, with the vast majority supporting high level NVQ qualifications. We are passionate about supporting all of our families, friends and visitors, by being attentive to all questions and needs. We also offer “dementia friends” training to all of our families etc upon request.
Can you hear people talking? Laughter? Does the home have a pleasant smell?
Our homes are dedicated to providing a safe space where our residents can relax, have fun and enjoy plenty of laughter and activities lead by our dedicated staff. All of our homes have vast cleaning teams, using top of the range equipment and products, including multiple wall units constantly circulating fresh smells which we can change upon request.
Can residents wander around easily and safely but without coming up against locked doors?
We run a secured site with our side gates and front door, which is only accessible by staff, this is to safeguard our residents with higher dementia needs. All bedroom doors are locked, which can be accessed by residents by a key or individual code, this is to safeguard all of our residents’ personal belongings. The entire home and garden are accessible at all hours to our residents to wander freely, with safety lighting round the entire premises for at night.
Would the home expect the resident to be moved to a nursing home as the dementia progresses?
We do not move our residents on as their needs progress. All of our staff are trained in progressive dementia care, with qualifications up to level 7 in NVQ ( equivalent to a master’s degree). We specialize in all levels of dementia care (Also learning difficulties at some of our units) and once our residents come to us, we provide person centred care which is reviewed monthly, providing them with a safe and caring home for the rest of their lives.
