About the Lodge

Shedfield Lodge is set in beautiful surroundings just outside of Wickham in the small parish of Shedfield. The lodge was built in the early 1700’s where it started life as a stately home. Captain James George Crabb-Boucher was lucky enough to receive the lodge as a wedding gift from his father. In the mid 18th century the lodge became the property of the Franklyn family who remained the owners through to 1956. Interestingly the Franklyns offered the lodge to the Canadian army during WWII as a base. You can still read names and dates written by Canadian soldiers on the walls of the cellar, including the odd saucy hand drawn picture! During the 60’s and 70’s Shedfield Lodge was used as both a nursing home and a children’s home helping local children with mental disabilities. In 1980 the Jones and Proctor families began to lease the property which led to the establishment of Shedfield Lodge Residential Care Home. It was in 2002 that the Geach family became the current proprietors of Shedfield Lodge, continuing the family run business in Shedfield. Today the lodge provides a unique location for a care home, offering grand views over the surrounding countryside whilst still known as a local landmark.

Features

We use a care management software that helps our team plan, record, report and co-ordinate care on the go via smart phones. This results in time saved, admin simplified and an improved quality of care. Residents at Shedfield Lodge have regular access to hairdressers, chiropodists, opticians, librarians, hygienists, chaplains, occupational therapists and local doctors. We always encourage visitors and consequently we operate unrestricted visiting hours. Craft days and shows add to the wide range of table games and activities available to all.

Shedfield Lodge consists of large private bedrooms all with hot and cold water and many with ensuite facilities. 3 Double rooms allow us to offer comfortable accomodation for 34 residents. All our bedrooms have large windows providing excellent views across our beautiful grounds. Each room offers privacy whilst maintaining the safety and comfort of our residents. All rooms are tastefully furnished but can be individualised to suit personal tastes. We have created a home from atmosphere and an important part of feeling comfortable is having personal effects, furniture, linens or anything else that will make an individuals room there own. Communication facilities coupled with nurse call systems mean that your loved ones are never more than a button push away. Our fully trained staff are on hand 24 hours a day and regularly perform rounds throughout the night. At Shedfield Lodge we have found the balance between safety and privacy.

Our staff are fully trained in all areas of care that is an essential part in keeping our quality high and current. There are many facets to the training which include Dementia & Alzheimer’s, First Aid, Moving & Handling, Drugs Administration, Health & Safety, Fire Evacuation, Food Hygiene, Adult Safeguarding, Hazardous Chemicals, Challenging Behaviour, Infection Control, Risk Assessments, Care Planning & Pressure Care. These are carried out regularly and all the staff are encouraged to further their skills with NVQ training in Care. It is of vital importance to develop my staff so that they are aware of the ever changing techniques of caring for elderly people, from those physically disabled to those with mental care needs.
